On Temporary Reassignment of Mr. Michael McDonough
The Bellaire High School PTO stands behind our principal, Mr. Michael McDonough, and is committed to support our students, teachers, and staff during his absence.
The temporary reassignment of Mr. McDonough by the HISD district office is disruptive. The poor timing shows little consideration of our students, teachers, and staff and does not look out for their best interests. Our students and teachers have worked hard all year and are in the middle of taking the STAAR, AP, and IB exams this week and next. The abrupt reassignment of Mr. McDonough has added stress to already stressful testing days. Please ask your students to stay focused and finish strong as I know that is what Mr. McDonough would have wanted.
We are all frustrated and want answers, but we do not have any information about the ongoing investigation. There are lots of rumors circulating, and they are only speculations at this time. The number sent out by HISD to ask questions is going to the front office of Bellaire High School. The front office staff have been inundated with calls about the situation, and, I assure you, they have no answers either at this time. Please be patient and kind with our staff, administrators, and teachers.
While I do not know the reasons for his reassignment, one thing I know for certain is that Mr. McDonough is an amazing principal. His leadership is why I choose to send my children to Bellaire and stay in HISD. He has worked hard to set good examples for our children, teachers and staff which has earned my family’s trust.
No school is perfect. Mr. McDonough would be the first to admit this. When a problem arises, solutions are not always simple or easy. He follows the district procedures for handling difficult situations and cooperates with investigations. Media reports are often one-sided as any comments from the administrators and district would violate the privacy they are entrusted to safeguard by law. There are many great achievements and accomplishments from within our student body and school that we should be celebrating, but that the media does not report.
I ask you to email the district to show your support for Mr. McDonough. Share your positive experiences and the reasons why you choose Bellaire High School. Ask the district for a fair and swift investigation and consider Mr. McDonough’s extraordinary leadership and commitment to our community over these last ten years that he has served as our principal. It is in the best interests of our students, teachers, staff, parents, and community to have our principal returned to Bellaire High School as soon as possible.
Thank you for all your support!
