A Letter from the Bellaire HS PTO President, Leisa Lovy

HISD BUDGET CUT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
As discussions continue around the HISD proposed budgets cuts for the 2018-2019 school year, we are better understanding the potential impacts of a $208 million budget shortfall and its affect on HISD students, schools and staff.

The Bellaire High School community believes "Children First". "Children are the reason parents place their faith in the Houston Independent School District. They are why teachers teach. They are what drives superintendents to demand innovation, principals to inspire new approaches. They are the reason support service workers arrive early and stay late. Children are, at heart, why taxpayers pay school property taxes. First come the children; everything else comes second." -quoted from the last performance review done by the State of Texas Legislative Budget Board in 1996.

BHS PTO is committed to support our school and community. We encourage you to ask questions and stay involved. Below are some items for your consideration:

• Attend the District V Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Bellaire High School Auditorium (5100 Maple, Bellaire, 77401).
• Many are requesting a performance audit to properly inform HISD leadership of the potential impact of their decisions. A performance audit will not be completed in time for the 18-19 budget, but it will help the district in future budget process. Click here to access a petition requesting HISD conduct a performance audit.
• Click here for a link to the last performance audit that was conducted for HISD in the 90s.

Thank you for your continued support,
Leisa Lovy
PTO President
