_The Bellaire PTO is pleased to offer the following opportunity for Study Abroad/Summer Studies Scholarships:
The PTO recognizes the educational value of Study Abroad programs and supports the efforts of students that seek to broaden their international understanding. The PTO will also support domestic enrichment programs that offer the same opportunities for service and leadership.
For the 2010/2011 school year, two $1000 scholarships were awarded. One student traveled to Paraquay with Amigos de las Americas and the other student traveled to Ghana with the American Field Service Intercultural Program. Both students actively participated in locally-led community service projects.
For the 2011/2012 school year, the PTO will offer six $500 scholarships to students who successfully apply and qualify for these scholarships.
TO APPLY - Students who wish to apply for a scholarship must submit a brief essay that includes the following points:
Explain purpose, cost and timeframe of service/education opportunity
Provide information about the organization that you will be working with
Your expectations and goals for your service opportunity
List what personal qualities or contributions you bring to help make the experience more successful
Describe how you think this experience will make you a better world citizen
Be sure to include your contact information – full name, current grade, mailing address, email and phone number.
Essay must be submitted in a sealed envelope addressed to BHS PTO-Study Abroad/Summer Studies Committee and placed in the PTO box in the main office.
SCHOLARSHIP TIMEFRAME and DEADLINES:
All applications must be received by April 1st. No exceptions.
All candidates will be informed on their scholarship status by April 16th.
